Catherine has worked as a practicing psychologist for over 30years with a focus on working with the adult population. Now with advances in technology Cath works exclusively in a Telehealth capacity (using telephone and video platforms). Having worked in both the public and private sectors in addition to a variety of academic teaching and research roles within 3 different Universities, Catherine brings to therapy a well integrated and well informed approach. Catherine is a full Member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and has also been accepted into the prestigious APS Clinical College recognising extra clinical specialisation in the practice of psychology within Australia. Catherine received the Academic Award for her studies in the post-graduate Masters of Clinical Psychology program at Griffith University demonstrating further the wealth of knowledge and practice she brings to the therapy room. An eclectic theoretical approach enables Catherine to provide therapy tailored to meet each client's individual needs, Some of the theoretical modalities used include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Positive Psychology, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) (including Mindfulness based strategies), Schema Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and the use of Existential theory and Attachment Theory to name just a few. Therapy is aimed for individuals with a GP referral, or private health, or those who are covered under Insurance for psychological injury (eg. WorkCover QLD, Comcare, and other private insurers too). Catherine has a strong belief in the power of choice, control, and self responsibility in realising one's true personal power and potential for change. People do have the power to make change happen in their lives and Catherine uses scientific theory and practice to bring this about in the therapy room. Therapy is a moving and dynamic process where people learn more about the established patterns that keep them stuck which can prevent them from reaching their own personal and psychological goals. Whether these are illness focussed, relationship focussed, work focussed, or general life goals, knowledge about these patterns provides the necessary power to heal and to become your best self no matter what life throws your way. |
